How I Read Tarot |

I'm a Tarot reader, and I do this professionally at markets and elsewhere. I enjoy tarot reading and do have some skill in it. Before I started reading professionally I debated long and hard over the pros and cons of doing so. Among certain pagan circles, "fortune telling" for money is frowned upon as a misuse of one's abilities. In the end I had to look at the traditions which I followed. From Greek myth and religion, soothsaying was a regular part of life. The fates wove the strands of a person's life and decided when to finish it, but others could look and see what that life might bring. The oracle at Delphi gave readings to querents, but this was not free. Querents were expected to leave a gold coin for the upkeep of the temple and its servants. Itinerant Gallae (who I take as my antecedents) would travel the countryside telling stories, singing, dancing, and predicting the future, in exchange for alms. The other tradition that has influenced me that's heavy on fortune telling is Gypsy. Dukkering was a stock in trade of Gypsies, and it was seldom given for free. the term "crossing the palm with silver" comes from this. The Gypsies were an oppressed, outcast cultural group, survival came first. They had no objections to taking money for advice.
But does Tarot Reading actually for tell the future? Depends. When I read tarot, I read the person primarily; the cards a means of focus for this. As my skill improves I might be able to read people without the cards (called a "psychic" reading), but I'm not there yet. Now when I read people, I'm using my intuition to see where they are in life at this point in time, and where they're headed. But the future isn't fixed. There are always possibilities, and the mere fact of considering information gained from a reading can influence the querent. Nothing is fixed, only what you make of it. When I read, I disengage my own ego, and "tune in" to the other person. Then the words just come out, but I don't feel I originate them. What I get out depends on a number of things. This is why reading for oneself is so hard, it's very difficult to leave your ego behind and let the message come thru. Sometimes clients don't want to hear what I tell them, and other times they try and hide certain facts. Results vary. The thing to remember is that tarot works on a personal level. Like dreams, meaning and importance vary. Sometimes I seem to be able to see people and events in a person's future with frightening clarity.
