Pagan Desktop Themes |

It seemed only natural for me to construct a set of desktop themes based on neopagan beliefs. Once I decided to, I had to decide on what images and icons to use. I decided to use two sets of sources -- historical ones and thematic. The images of all the historical themes use statues, reliefs and papyrus from the cultures they take their source from. I picked Egyptian, Greco-Roman, Celtic and Norse (Astartu) for the historical themes as these have all had an impact and influence upon modern European based paganism. I excluded others because (for me at least) the myths and symbolism play much less of a roll in my beliefs and practice (another set of themes perhaps). Both the Goddess and The God themes also use statues, reliefs and papyrus from ancient cultures, however they have been mixed for aesthetic taste. The Alchemy theme uses prints from the 16th and 17th centuries, whereas the Modern one uses photos and symols more in keeping with popular western neo-paganism. With this series of themes I decided to replace all the desktop icons (My Computer, My Documents, Network Neighborhood and the two Recycle Bin ones) for each theme. The Icon set is... I had to do more reseach for the icons than I did for either the images or sounds (which were taken from a relaxation CD with snippets from The Church, Madonna, U2 and Def FX). The desktop icons have all been set to 16 colour only. This is to contrast with a photographic and often detailed background. The research came in when selecting appropriate icons for the culture. My own accent in neopaganism is Greco-Roman (with a bit of Goth thrown in) so I have more knowledge in Greek and Egyptians symbols. If you find an desktop icon in a theme that you think shouldn't be there, please email me, but also please suggest a replacement! |
